For this opening concert of the Festival, the Modigliani Quartet, which has unquestionably become one of today?s leading chamber music ensembles, continues its exploration of Beethoven?s quartets with an absolute pinnacle of string quartet literature, the String Quartet No. 8 (Op.59 No.2) "Razumovsky" (after having performed Op.59 No.1 in 2024). For this special concert, the quartet has decided to invite one of the most exciting clarinettists of the early 21st century, the Spaniard Pablo Barragán, to share another masterpiece of chamber music: Brahms?s Quintet op.115. The composer comes out of voluntary retirement to compose this almost unbearably nostalgic musical testament, five years before his death.
